The Competitive Edge City is an interactive online application that maps multiple location-based data sets. It was built as a tool for visualizing factors affecting urban environments such as housing costs, population density, economic performance, innovation, and quality of life.

The application reads data stored in XML format and represents it onscreen as a 3-dimensional array of color tiles overlaid on top of Boston metropolitan area map. A set of sliders allows the data to mixed and weighed in realtime; some presets are pre-defined in a pulldown menu.

The application was created for the MIT Laboratory for Mobile Learning. It is written in Processing and available online at
